Next year, routine health checkups including osteoporosis tests will be expanded to women aged 60.
- Expansion of Health Checkups: The government has announced plans to expand routine health checkups, including the inclusion of osteoporosis tests for women up to the age of 60, which was previously limited to women aged 54 and 66. This decision is part of a major initiative to promote women's health.
- Child Health Checkup Improvement: As part of a follow-up plan for pediatric care, there is a proposal to increase the number of health checkups for infants and collaborate with the Ministry of Education to enhance the pilot program for improving student health checkups.
Improvement in Healthcare Evaluation
Diverse Evaluation Plans: The 5th round evaluation plan for healthcare institutions includes incentivizing continuous excellence in general and cancer screenings, and emphasizes disease prediction in cancer screening evaluations. | Enhanced Evaluation Criteria: The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducts evaluations every three years, focusing on 9 types of health checkups, including general health examinations, pediatric examinations, dental checkups, and the 6 major cancer examinations at hospital-level and clinic-level institutions. |
To further this initiative, and to ensure quality healthcare services, these decisions will be implemented from January next year after further system revisions and healthcare screening standards updates in the latter half of this year.
Minister's Statement
Minister Park Min-soo emphasized the need for a shift to a preventive and integrated healthcare management system in the aging society, highlighting the importance of the national health checkup system as a vital means of disease prevention, early detection and management, and improving the lifespan and health of the population as a whole.
